Diane Werny Obituary: A Life of Love and Devotion

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane McKeen (Urquhart), age 80, on November 23, 2022. Born in Kirkland Lake, ON, and raised in South Bar and Sydney, Cape Breton, Diane had a profound impact on everyone who knew her.

Throughout her life, Diane was known for her warm and welcoming nature, earning her the nickname 'Nammie' from her grandchildren. She loved nothing more than hosting family gatherings and being the 'hostess with the mostess.' Her home, built by her loving husband Gordon, was always filled with laughter, love, and warmth.

Diane's extraordinary gift for bringing people together was evident in her many friendships and connections throughout her life. As an administrative secretary for the Dartmouth School Board and later as the beloved secretary at her grandchildren's elementary school, she touched the lives of countless individuals.

In her later years, Diane fulfilled her dream of exploring her Urquhart and MacLeod roots by traveling to Scotland and the Isle of Skye. Her sense of adventure and wanderlust were an inspiration to all who knew her.

Diane is survived by her husband of 28 years, Gordon McKeen; her daughter, Rachael (Swift) Tabor (Brian); son, Alex Swift (Elena); brother, Barry (Barbara); nephews, Matthew (Josh), Kenzie (Charlotte) Urquhart, and niece, Ellen Urquhart, and their families. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at Stairs Memorial United Church, 44 Hester St., Dartmouth on December 'date' at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in Diane's memory.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to the exceptional nursing and physician staff of Dartmouth General Hospital who allowed us quality time with our mom in her final days and to the many family members, friends, and neighbors who have reached out to us during this difficult time.
